2019 Annual Meeting and Luncheon

The Cape Cod Tufts Club’s annual meeting and luncheon was held on Saturday, June 22 and featured an exceptional presentation from Dr. David Kaplan, Professor & Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering who also holds faculty appointments in the School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. The presentation, entitled Uncovering the Cure: A Conversation on Degenerative Brain Disease Treatments provided fascinating insights (in language and concepts geared to the lay audience) into Dr. Kaplan’s ongoing research in the filed of regenerative medicine used to study diseases associated with the brain, intestine, kidney, obesity, diabetes and cancers as well as to develop therapeutic screening. This groundbreaking work has clear implications for the treatment of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Traumatic Brain Injury, Autism and Glioblastomas.

Preceding the business meeting, two of our three Cape Cod Tufts Club $2500 scholarship recipients were introduced (the third is doing an internship in Minnesota) and a special award was presented to Camille Murphy in recognition of her many years of work on the Cape Cod Tufts Club book awards program that presents books to meritorious juniors at high schools across the Cape. Additionally Melissa Marchand J75 received the Alumni Chapter Leadership Award.
