Dear Fellow Jumbos:

I have been your Cape Cod Tufts Club president for the past three years and will continue as president for FY 2022. As we close out the club’s FY 2021, we realize only too well, this past year has been a difficult one. Not having our usual Cape Cod Tufts Club luncheons meant we could not enjoy renewing old friendships nor making new ones within our membership. As we look ahead to FY 2022, we are planning to provide interesting in-person programs once again for our members.

Furthermore, since our virtual meetings this past year attracted many alumni and friends from around the country, we are planning to include at least two virtual meetings in addition to our usual four onsite luncheons.

Since June of 2020 your club has planned and organized five virtual events. Notable speakers have included:Dr. Roger Hanlon, senior scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole; “The Octopus as Tech”Jeanne Goldberg, professor of nutrition emerita at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University; “The OCS Diet: The Promise of Good Nutrition” Dr. David Martin, professor/dean emeritus from Gallaudet University; “Cape Cod and the Plimoth Colony—A Forgotten Chapter”Tufts Professor Michael Beckley; “The Superpower Marathon – China vs. the U.S.”We also hosted a virtual holiday songfest by Centertonix and the Cranberry Shores Chorus.

This year cannot end without our sincere thanks to our members for their support of the Cape Cod Tufts Club Scholarship Fund. In June 2021, we were able to award three $2,500 scholarships to Tufts students from our area, and we are well on our way to reaching our goal of $7,500 for the June 2022 awards. Your club also participates in the Tufts Book Award program each spring by honoring outstanding juniors attending 11 different high schools in our area.

The club’s website, www.capecodtuftsclub.org, has been recently upgraded by your Communications Committee. Your club dues enabled this upgrade, so we do ask that you “take a look.” We would welcome your comments.

On behalf of the Cape Cod Tufts Club’s Board of Directors, may this summer be a healthful and pleasurable one for you and your families.

With best wishes for your health and safety,

Mike
