The Cape Cod Tufts Club invited alumni, parents, friends of Tufts and members of the Intercollegiate Alumni of Cape Cod and Islands and the general public, to join them for an evening with one of Cape Cod’s most revered professors.
On Monday, November 8, guests enjoyed a fascinating presentation on the oceans by Professor Joseph Pedlosky, a Scientist Emeritus at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He discussed the general circulation of the waters, emphasizing physics and flow patterns, described some striking features of the oceanic flow at the equator and briefly reviewed modern methods of ocean observations. An audience Q&A with Professor Pedlosky followed his talk.
About Professor Pedlosky:
Professor Pedlosky received his undergraduate and graduate degrees and then had his early career all at MIT. In 1968 he went to the University of Chicago, and in 1976 was a Guggenheim Fellow at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. In 1979 he moved with his family to Cape Cod to become the Doherty Professor where he taught extensively in the WHOI/MIT joint program and mentored many students and postdocs who are now leaders in the field. He has received numerous awards and is a member of both the National Academy of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is well-known worldwide to the oceanographic community, and his three excellent books are famous.
