As the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower is still being celebrated, we were fortunate to have Dr. David Martin speak to us on the forgotten role of Cape Cod during the first century of the Plimoth Colony.  He recently coordinated a symposium for the Cape and Islands Historical Association on the Significance of Cape Cod in the Plimoth Colony. Dr. Martin enlightened us on the importance of the Aptucxet Trading Post in Bourne as an economic center for the whole colony and the role of the Wampanoags in rescuing shipwrecked colonists in Orleans. In a truly fascinating tidbit Dr. Martin noted that were it not for a storm in Cape Cod Bay, Barnstable might have taken the place of the Plimoth Colony.

Dr Martin is Professor/Dean Emeritus from Gallaudet University, with a B.A. from Yale, a Masters and Certificate of Advanced Study degrees from Harvard School of Education and a Ph.D. from Boston College.

We are delighted to report that we had over 140 registrants for this CCTC event with guests from both the Intercollegiate Alumni Clubs of Cape Cod and Islands and the Cape Cod Genealogical Society.

In case you were unable to attend the April 10th event, a video of Dr. Martin’s webinar will be available shortly on our website. Check back soon for the link.
