In 2001 Kim Eaton reconnected with a long lost Delta Tau Delta frat brother on a cruise. Discovering that they both lived on Cape Cod along with a number of other fellow brothers they started getting together at Cape Cod Tufts Club meetings. By 2008, Kim was recruited to join the board where his enthusiasm for the club blossomed. Kim held the position of president from 2012 to 2015 and following that took on the role of secretary, adding treasurer to the job in 2018. Kim’s dedication to the club was prodigious.
Taking on membership committee duties in 2011 he created and updated special email lists to communicate with active members and formed special membership drives to grow the club’s numbers. He also served on the scholarship committee and as the club’s rep to the Intercollegiate Alumni of the Cape and Islands (IACI). He participated in the book awards program and helped to develop and provide content support for the club’s website.
Tapping into his wide array of contacts, Kim was able to secure some of the club’s most interesting speakers including astronaut (and Tufts alum) Fred Hauck, marine biologist and shark expert Greg Skomal, Cape Cod Symphony Director Jung-Ho Pak, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, underwater field archeologist Chris Macort and Admiral Richard Gurnon, President of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
With his warm smile and outgoing personality Kim as been a fixture at the event reception desk greeting friends and making new ones. He has shared his passion and commitment to the club, brought innovative ideas tempered by his sound business sense, and along with his delightful wife, Pam, has made everyone feel welcome and helped the club grow and mature into what it is today.
After 20 years of participation and 12 as a board member Kim retired in June but promised to never be a stranger to the club. In appreciation of his years of dedicated service, the board presented Kim with and a Tufts Boston Rocker inscribed with his name and class year — much to his delight.
