2022 Annual Meeting: Explaining Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine
On Sunday, June 26, the Cape Cod Tufts Club welcomed one of Fletcher’s most revered professors, Arik Burakovsky, Assistant Director of the Fletcher Russia and Eurasia Program at Tufts University, to explore the historical, geopolitical, as well as Russian and Ukrainian domestic political trends that led up to the war. His lecture assessed the fraught history of Russia-Ukraine relations, the security dilemma between Russia and NATO, the pro-Western drift of Ukraine, the rise of a personalistic autocracy in Russia, and the failure of diplomacy between Russia and the West.
In addition, the club announced the recipients of the three 2022 Cape Cod Tufts Club $2500 scholarships, presenting two of the certificates in person at the meeting. The recipients are Angela Fragano, Rosemary Loer and Isabel Merl.
